Certificates

At the request of an Estonian citizen or an Estonian legal entity, the consul can provide a certificate of the circumstances known to him, based on the data of the Estonian population register or other Estonian state registers, official or documented information.

When requesting a certificate, it must be clear what circumstances are to be proved, i.e. if the certificate is necessary for official business, the content of the certificate must first be explained to the authority requesting the certificate.

Certificate of family event and extract from the population register

To prove marital status, birth, right of custody, marriage, divorce or kinship, it is possible to order certificates of family events or extracts from the population register.

The most convenient way to order a certificate of civil status event or an extract from the population register and pay the state fee is the e-population register. It is also possible to order certificates and the extract from the Embassy. For this, a respective application must be submitted and a state fee of 20 euros be paid. Certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage

In order to get married in the Republic of Korea, it is generally necessary to present a certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage. The certificate can be ordered from your local government in Estonia or from the Embassy. You cannot order a marriage certificate online from the e-population register.

To order the certificate from the Embassy, ​​you must submit a respective application (application form) and pay a state fee of 20 euros. Send the completed and digitally signed application together with a copy of your  and your future spouse’s passport or ID card and the state fee payment order to [email protected].

NB! The marriage certificate is valid for six months from the date of issue.

Certificate of good conduct i.e. certificate of impunity

You can order proof of your criminal record or lack thereof from the Estonian Criminal Records Database. Instructions for ordering a certificate/notice from the database can be found here.

The Criminal Records Database issues database notices only in Estonian. If necessary, you must contact a sworn translator or order a certificate of circumstances known to the consul from the Embassy, ​​which will be issued in English.

Certificate of other circumstances

The consul can issue documents based on the information available, using data from official registers of Estonia or other official documents of Estonia. The document is valid only in the Republic of Korea and is intended to be presented to the authorities of the Republic of Korea. For example, documents can be issued to prove the person’s right to drive, lack of nationality etc. Solutions always depend on the requirements and basic information set out by the authority where the document needs to be submitted.
